The Tweed- Experts tip Tweed as next sea-change destination
Some of Australia’s top population financial and real estate analysts predict the Tweed’s strong population growth would result in the Tweed becoming the next sea-change destination.
The predictions were revealed when demographer Bernard Salt, financial commentator Michael Pasco, independent property analysist Michael Mitusik and Tweed Economic Development Corporation CEO Tom Senti spoke at a recent forum at Salt Village.
The Tweed is “Hot-Property” in the business and residential market with Tweed Economic Development Corporation CEO Tom Senti estimating that new commercial development in various stages of planning and construction for the Tweed CBD are estimated to be worth $650million, and that these projections do not include economic benefits associated with proposed employment generating land projects or other proposed residential developments in the Tweed including Kings Forrest, Cobaki Lakes, Terranora and Murwillumbah.
The Tweed region is being driven by consumer demand with the region emerging as a value for money destination in both the small business and residential property in the $500,000-00 market range.
Mr Salt said areas such as the Tweed Coast would continue to prove popular with Australians for decades to come for both lifestyle and economic reasons. The fundamentals that have driven the sea-change shift over the past seven years have not changed with beachside areas supported by good infrastructure and amenities with the Tweed expected to lead the way over the next decade or so.
Recent major transport infrastructure developments such as the Tugun Bypass and the Sexton’s Hill project will also assist with employment generating activity and business opportunities in the Tweed. The Federal Government’s Auslink projections suggest that the cross border traffic will increase to 152,000 vehicles daily by 2026, and that the recently upgraded Tugun Bypass will accommodate most of the cross border increase, as well as reducing existing traffic on the Gold Coast Highway by 55 percent. Plans to upgrade Sexton’s Hill will also have a positive impact on managing increased traffic flows between the cross border regions.
The tourism sector and local community will also benefit from the re-development of the Jack Evans Boat Harbour precinct as a leisure and recreation area with retail, hospitality and commercial opportunities.
Home to Australia’s leading residential resort developments and master-planned communities, the Tweed hosts a unique mix of residential, holiday and tourist accommodation including developments at Casuarina, Salt, Cotton Beach and the new $60million ‘River’ development at Barney’s Point.
