Creative Industries
The NSW Northern Rivers region has long been identified as a hot spot for the innovative arts and creative industries which includes: Advertising and Marketing, Architecture, Design and Visual Art, Music and Performing Arts, Publishing, Film, Television and Radio, Software and interactive content. The Richmond -Tweed area of the Northern Rivers region is experiencing the strongest employment growth in the creative industry sector.
The Northern Rivers area demonstrates a strong involvement in the areas of architecture, design and visual arts as well as publishing, software and digital content which collectively contribute 60 percent of the northern rivers creative industry employment.
The Northern Rivers region has experienced 67 percent employment growth between 1996 and 2006 with the Tweed securing an average of 5.7 percent annual growth (2001-2006), with the Tweed’s creative industries providing a significant flow on benefits to the local economy. Between 2001 and 2006 the arts and creative industries in the Northern Rivers grew 25 percent faster annually than the remaining regional economy.
In New South Wales the creative industries employs 5 percent of the workforce with employees paid an average of 10 percent more than in other Australian states. As well as hosting the strongest arts and creative industries sector, NSW also has the largest customer base hosting local, national and international clientele.
