The TEDC 2007/08 Economic Model update confirmed the Tweed food manufacturing industry contributed $20.565 million to Gross Regional Product, $13.999 million in wages and salaries, and 391 jobs.

The Tweed’s food manufacturing industry includes processing of traditional agricultural products as well as processing of niche agricultural products, and tourism related food production which offers, “an experience as well as a product”. The Tweed’s location is ideal for a broad range of food production, manufacturing and distribution entities, strategic located in close proximity to the south East Queensland market, the sea and air ports of Brisbane, the Gold Coast Airport and with improved access to Pacific Highway which links to major city centers to the north and south and the growing South East Asian market, all providing a competitive advantage to Tweed food manufacturers.

The North Coast Institute of TAFE conduct training courses to assists in the development of the skills necessary to facilitate growth in the food manufacturing industry, as does the Southern Cross University who produces graduates qualified in food technology.
