Tweed Heads CBD Revitalisation
The Tweed Heads CBD revitalisation project was initiated by TEDC as part of a broader approach to provide a vision and master plan for the redevelopment of the Tweed Heads CBD which was confronted with the changes to retail and business growth patterns driven by the emergence of centralized shopping centers.
Initial research by TEDC identified the need for the development of a master planning concept to provide an element of certainty and direction for the attraction of new investor interest in the redevelopment of the Tweed heads CBD. Redevelopment concepts developed by TEDC and supported by research, were presented to the NSW State Government who subsequently established Tweed Heads Redevelopment Taskforce. The Taskforce was responsible for the development of a vision and master plan for the redevelopment of the Tweed Heads business precinct, including issues associated with transport connectivity and infrastructure.
This master plan has now resulted in some $650 million of completed and proposed new investment with that number expected to increase substantially over the next ten years as the Tweeds economy continues to grow in response to population and business related growth.
In recognition of the growth pressures and opportunities associated with Tweed Heads and in recognition of the growth potential and importance of the South Tweed business center, the NSW Government initiated the involvement of the NSW Cities Planning Taskforce to expand the original Tweed CBD master plan process to be expanded to include South Tweed Heads, as part of a whole of government coordinated approach to providing an appropriate vision and planning direction to accommodate and facilitate future new business, investment and residential accommodation growth in the broader Tweed/South Tweed region.
