Tweed River Nature Link (TRNL)
The TRNL concept encompasses the greater region of the Tweed Valley and will create links with the various facilities and attractions of the Tweed and Southern Gold Coast. The proposed project aims to promote the Tweed River as a catalyst for promoting and developing other nature based tourism product.
The TRNL project concept proposes to directly link by river, the coastal attractions of South East Queensland and Far Northern New South Wales (Tweed), with the rural and rainforest attractions of Murwillumbah and its surrounding valley. This project will not only increase the tourism potential of the region, but also build on the increasing recognition of Murwillumbah as the gateway to the hinterland rainforest attractions and the surrounding rural villages as well as an emerging business growth centre for the Tweed valley.
The TRNL has the following (3) major objectives:
- To capitalize on the Tweed River as a nature based attraction which creates a link between a number of proposed projects and existing attractions centered on the Tweed River including; Tweed Heads CBD; Jack Evans Boat Harbour; Southern Boat Harbour; The Ivory Hotel; Tumbulgum; Condong; Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley villages.
- To act as a catalyst for industry, tourism, and other economic growth opportunities for the development of Murwillumbah as the gateway to the Tweed Valley and as a tourism and investment attraction destination in it’s own right.
- To construct elements of public infrastructure to link the attractions and identified precincts within Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley including natural attractions such as the world heritage listed national parks and rainforests, Mount Warning, the Tweed River, the resort developments of the Tweed Coast and the Tweed Regional Art gallery.
